about

Recorded live at the Lines of Flight Festival in the claustrophobic basement of None Gallery in Stafford St Dunedin - 1 October 2004. This trio performance featuring the impeccable stickwork of Peter Stapleton has never been released in any form in whole or in part - listening to this you will wonder why? Long-form improvisation by a trio at the height of their powers. This is world-creating sound, building entire civilisations from frequencies and the physical impact of one thing upon another.

Twelve turns of the rail on walls of emerald
A sea-beast's horn repels the dust, a jade repels the cold...

The stars which sank to the bottom of the sea show up at the window...

On the jade wheel where the hare watches, the dark begins to grow,
The coral in the iron net has still to put forth branches.
I have studied magic, can halt the retreat of day:
I have fetched Phoenix papers and written of my love...

On the pool of jade the lotus leaves spread out across the water.
