about

Recorded at Lines of Flight, Athenaeum Theatre, Dunedin 8 October 2000. Released in 2003 by Non Mi Piace, France.

from the original liner notes:
Their remit is complete freedom.; No rehearsals, no premeditation, no prisoners. Instrumentation has grown more diverse over time, as guitar, violin and drums has been augmented with keyboards, radio and electronic devices.... The theatre was tiny, and stricken by mould. The mise en scene was enlivened by video projections by Kim Pieters. the sound was pristine and the performance marked by an unusually delicate touch by the entire group. ... both pieces have been titled after poems, by F. G. Lorca and Li Ho, respectively. The album is titled after the sustaining drink consumed by the Mongol hordes as they conquered the known world in the 13th century.

Our ambitions are not less:
'authority over all the signs of the earth'.
